Please call or email the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation immediately to voice your opposition to the nomination of Thomas E. Wheeler as Chairman of the FCC
Thomas E. Wheeler, a longtime lobbyist for the CTIA (the Wireless Association) and opponent of meaningful RF safety limits in the 1996 Telecommunications Act, has now been nominated by Obama to be Chairman of the FCC. Those of us who are aware of the inherent health risks from wireless technologies, must voice our concerns to the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation about the serious conflict of interest of Mr. Wheeler’s nomination for Chairman of the FCC. It is imperative that both the majority and minority staff members of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications hear from us NOW or we may end up with even looser safety standards and compliance enforcement than we already have. For those of you concerned about smart meters, you may recall that the industry is using the ridiculous FCC standards as proof that smart meter radiation is harmless.
Below you will find a sample letter, which you may personalize by inserting a statement about your own experience between paragraphs. We recommend you write a brief first-hand experience which illustrates the need for biologically-based RF safety limits and possibly include reasons for maintaining the landline phone system. (Remember to delete placeholder for name and address and replace with your own name and address.)
Below is a list of email addresses for committee members. Please try to email both majority and minority staff members even if this takes a bit more time.
Also, if you have not already done so, please sign and promote The Petition to hold hearings to fire the FCC and hire the EPA to set RF radiation safety limits on Twitter, Facebook, websites, and in newsletters. Links are below. Letters from the petition signers are also sent to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation and add to the growing awareness about the health issues related to the inadequacy of existing RF safety limits .

Sample Letter to the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation follows:
***Your name and address***
Dear Chairman Rockefeller and Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Members;
I urge you to reject the nomination of Thomas E. Wheeler for Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Mr. Wheeler has a very strong bias in favor of the powerful telecommunications industry. At a time when the FCC needs objective leadership, I cannot think of a more biased person to lead this agency.
In his position as President of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) from 1992-2004, Mr. Wheeler was the chief lobbyist for the wireless industry. Presently Mr. Wheeler sits on the board of various telecommunications companies. His strong industry bias will undoubtedly result in safety limits that will pose an even greater threat to public health than those currently in place. It should be noted that the FCC’s radiation exposure standards for cell phones are some of the weakest of any standards in the world. I cannot imagine any scenario where Mr. Wheeler would allow them to be strengthened. Furthermore, Mr. Wheeler can be expected to move forward in dismantling the landline phone system at a time when governments around the world are urging the use of wired phones and internet due to the evidence of harm caused by wireless radiation.
The FCC has already exhibited industry bias detrimental to public health by not enforcing its existing inadequate, thermally-based, radiofrequency (RF) safety limits. In addition, the FCC has no established procedure for filing violation complaints; for responding to complaints received; for verifying compliance; or for imposing meaningful penalties for violations. Please see www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oICZOtMwPo&list=UUswusUtfIemZ1TqGtspPstA&index=3 for a short summary of the investigation conducted by the EMRadiation Policy Institute which includes findings of violations up to, and in excess of 600% of the safety standards.
Violations of the FCC exposure standards are particularly dangerous because the current FCC RF safety limits are only thermally-based and not biologically based. The FCC’s view in 1996 was that if the RF radiation did not heat your tissues too much, it was safe. The responsible international health organizations (World Health Organization, Karolinksa Institute, and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine) reject this view. The RF safety limits are in dire need of serious revision. The biological effects people are experiencing are serious and potentially life-threatening. I urge you to read the attachments:
1. Comments submitted to the FCC by Blake Levitt, former New York Times writer, medical/science journalist, and author of two books on the health/environmental effects of nonionizing radiation;
2. Dr. Henri Lai, from The University of Washington, Dept. of Bioengineering whose main research for decades has been on the biological effects of nonionizing radiation, from extremely-low-frequency to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields
In addition I recommend you watch the following short videos:

****Insert your personal statement here.***
Due to Mr. Wheeler’s strong industry bias, his appointment would undermine his objectivity at a time when the FCC desperately needs to revise the above mentioned exposure standards. Nor is it likely that Mr. Wheeler would ever seek to seriously enforce any standards that the FCC produces. Please reject the nomination of Thomas E. Wheeler for Chairman of the FCC.
